DiscountMugs.com renewed its "No BPA Products" policy after additional reports came out about the harmful effects of this chemical found in polycarbonate-based products.

DiscountMugs.com ceased its production of new BPA products a year-and-a-half ago when the first study came out and have decided to continue their “no BPA products” policy for precautionary reasons.

DiscountMugs.com, the largest factory-direct distributor of promotional products in the country, have performed a review of their products containing the substance Bisphenol A (BPA) and decided they will continue their policy of not ordering BPA products. The review was prompted by recent reports from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that BPA is a “potentially” harmful substance. Bisphenol A is a substance that is found in many polycarbonate-based products and recently has come under scrutiny for being hazardous to humans. This is the second study conducted on this substance by the FDA and while many scientist speculate that only trace amounts of BPA are actually consumed through the use of plastic items, DiscountMugs.com ceased its production of new BPA products a year-and-a-half ago when the first study came out and have decided to continue their “no BPA products” policy for precautionary reasons.

The FDA released their most recent study in January of 2010 that came to the conclusion that BPA products were “potentially” harmful to humans, but more studies were needed to conclude whether or not they were consumed in large enough amounts to be harmful. DiscountMugs.com had polycarbonate sports bottles and water bottles containing BPA, as did the majority of companies that sell sports bottles and water bottles but decided to stop ordering and manufacturing these products over a year ago. The FDA released this statement on BPA in their reports, “At this interim stage, FDA shares the perspective of the National Toxicology Program that recent studies provide reason for some concern about the potential effects of BPA…”. The FDA also stated they were “….taking reasonable steps to reduce human exposure to BPA”.

CEO of DiscountMugs.com Amin Rahman commented on the study and his continued company ban in production by stating, “As a manufacturer, you have a responsibility to your customers to provide safe materials; that is why we have gone beyond the FDA’s suggested regulations to ensure the safety of our customers.” Rahman also stated, “For the safety purposes, it is important to make sure the products you are purchasing are BPA free; it is because of this all of our plastic sports bottles and water bottles clearly state 'BPA free' on our website.” DiscountMugs.com has around 100 sports bottle and water bottle products that are made of various materials from polycarbonate and aluminum to metal and stainless steel. As a larger company, DiscountMugs.com hopes competitors and smaller companies stop manufacturing these BPA products for the safety of their customers and betterment of the promotional products industry.
