Archaio LLC, a world-class software company specializing in digital technology and true scale building intelligence, announced today that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office awarded a patent for systems and methods for providing true scale measurement for digitized drawings. This is the second patent issued to Archaio and has a term ending in 2024.

The patent covers the steps of digitizing a paper document that include capturing the physical parameters, embedding the true scale data in a header associated with the digitized image file, and storing the digitized image. The patent further provides for the processing of the header data when viewing the digitized image on a viewer application so the data can be used to measure true scale line lengths and areas. The ability to take true scale measurements is expected to be a valuable tool for planning and decision making in emergency response operations because of the capability to access precise quantitative information regarding the interior of a structure.

In addition, the patent covers a tool that enables the measurement of lengths (of both lines and poly lines) and areas (of both regular and irregular shapes) from a digital drawing in true scale. The measurement tool is intended to be used in instances when measuring or annotating drawings in true scale is critical, such as original architectural drawings when scanned from paper to digital formats.

"We have always believed our technology is 'one of a kind.' This patent, along with the December 2009 patent for a system and method for rapid emergency information distribution, emphatically reinforces our view," said Chief Executive Roy Judelson. "Essentially, this invention can transform how incident commanders conduct their initial planning and response operations inside a structure. It allows emergency responders to take exact linear and area measurements in true scale of the interior of buildings within the 2-D or 3-D building models in order to make more educated and well-informed decisions prior to entering a building."
