Self-publishing company Xlibris announces the release of Melissa's Magic Ride by psychologist, Dr. Laura Slap-Shelton. Dr. Slap-Shelton’s captivating story of outward adventure and inward journey combines personal experience and professional knowledge to create a story that children everywhere can embrace as their own.
Readers are introduced to eight-year-old Melissa whose father died when she was very young. Assigned to tell her class about her father, she confronts her sadness at not being able to remember him. Looking at photo albums and hearing stories about him helps but does not give her the deep sense of personal connection she craves. With her report due the next day she goes to bed hoping to somehow meet her father. The adventure begins as Melissa wakes to find her bed flying through the night sky to new worlds and the meeting she has been wishing for. The next morning something makes her wonder if it was all a dream.
Beautiful hand painted watercolor scenes carry the reader from familiar home through brilliant skies and foggy seas, as Melissa experiences the multi- colored landscapes of her dream. Readers young and old will be transfixed as they follow her journey to the heart of her relationship with her father. Melissa's Magic Ride will be especially helpful for children coping with the loss of or separation from an important loved one but is a story which can be enjoyed by all.
