Announcing ACTbyNumbers.com, a new website showing people how to lead more valued, vital lives using a simple 'by the numbers' personal growth and development system. The site was developed by two psychologists specializing in making the ACT point of view available to everyone.
ACT is short for Acceptance and Commitment Training (or Therapy). It's is based on the point of view that learning what works to move Toward things that are important to us (like Family, Friends, Work and Health) is a more workable path to valued living. Things that you used to spend a of time trying to get rid of (like stress and anxiety) are taken along for the ride from this "ACT" point of view.
ACT by Numbers is lighthearted and fun. It's based on the notion that life is entirely too serious to be taken that seriously. ACTbyNumbers.com offers the visitor many free video clips describing the five elements of this self-improvement process: The visitor starts with Values (V is for 5); defining the valued direction to journey Toward. The next brief video is about some 5-senses Experiencing (I) associated with the value. The video clips then move on to the Noticing of Mental Experiencing (II), the "Me" noticing the difference (III), and finally the stuff that we at times move Away from like stress, sadness and anxiety (IV). Putting the whole process together is a recipe for increased valued living.
Most of tools and videos on the site are free. So far the most popular free email course is "A Value a Day for 14 Days." After signing up for the course the student is sent a simple values exercise for fourteen days.
The great thing is that you don't have to do a lot of studying or homework to do the ACT by Numbers system. You just do a bit of extra noticing each day and the learning comes naturally.
