The story transports the reader back to the dark days when Great Britain was a haven for an evil satanic sect of ten virginal daughters, each of whose servitude and submission to the devil was rewarded with a distinctive ruby ring. The ring bestowed the wearer with a long and fruitful life, and the only way to truly rid the land of this evil was to sever the hand on which the ring was placed. The hands then had to be destroyed--a difficult task as the hands had ideas of their own.
Back in present-day Cornwall, Detective Steve MacEnroy is charged with the investigation of a missing persons mystery, and he soon finds that these ancient satanic rituals have lived on. His search reveals some gruesome secrets of the chosen followers of Satan. Steve's skills and cunning are tested to the fullest as he sets about their destruction, and his treacherous journey takes him from the cliffs of Cornwall to the moors of Bodmin in search of a mysterious old woman who may hold the answers to all of his questions.
