Environmental profiles provide data on energy use, material efficiency and other factors.

With the flood of green product claims in the marketplace, people are rightfully skeptical. It’s not enough to say you’re green – you must prove it.

iLevel by Weyerhaeuser has released concise reports providing data and analysis on the environmental attributes of its lumber and engineered wood products. The iLevel Product Environmental Profiles quantify the energy sources used in product manufacturing, management of materials remaining from the manufacturing process, carbon footprint, and other factors such as water use and air emissions. The documents demonstrate the company’s efficient use of natural resources, net carbon benefit of its products, and other environmentally responsible practices. http://www.ilevel.com

Using summary tables and easy-to-read charts, the two-page iLevel Product Environmental Profiles provide builders, building material dealers, and homeowners with data on key environmental factors of wood structural framing products. Data demonstrate that iLevel softwood lumber products store more than five times the carbon over their useful lives than is emitted to produce them. Depending on the product, the company also uses between 93 percent to nearly 100 percent of the residual materials from its manufacturing processes as fuel for energy or for other beneficial uses such as production of pulp and paper. Overall, Weyerhaeuser uses 99 percent of every log on average in its manufacturing processes, making efficient use of natural resources.

“With the flood of green product claims in the marketplace, people are rightfully skeptical. It’s not enough to say you’re green – you must prove it,” says Cassie Phillips, Vice President of Sustainable Forests and Products for Weyerhaeuser. “We believe in making information on our products’ environmental attributes widely available, using scientific data in a clear way that the general public can use.”

iLevel Product Environmental Profiles include information for iLevel® softwood lumber, TJI® joists, TimberStrand® laminated strand lumber (LSL), Parallam® parallel strand lumber (PSL), Microllam® laminated veneer lumber (LVL) and iLevel Edge™ and Edge Gold™ oriented strand board (OSB).

In addition to environmentally responsible manufacturing, Weyerhaeuser is committed to sustainable forestry. All of the forests it owns or manages in North America are independently certified to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI®) standard, and the company plants more than 100 million seedlings each year.

Recently it was announced that Weyerhaeuser was among 35 international companies recognized today by the investor-backed Forest Footprint Disclosure for leadership in managing their operations and supply chains to minimize the effects on forests worldwide. The report named Weyerhaeuser best performer in the Industrial and Auto sector. Weyerhaeuser was the only U.S.-based company named a best performer. Corporate Responsibility Magazine has also named Weyerhaeuser to its annual list of 100 Best Corporate Citizens, ranked number 67 overall.
