In revamping their local search platform GenieKnows has added an interesting array of Web 2.0 features which heightens a shift towards a local and social mashup.

The new and improved GenieKnows.com is a website where users can join other local people, share opinions and discover their cities by writing reviews, uploading photos and following their favorite places and local businesses.

GenieKnows Inc. (formerly IT Interactive Services Inc.), a privately held, Halifax-based Canadian and US local search company today announced the release of its new social local community website.

GenieKnows.com offers local search and reviews for restaurants, hotels, bars and clubs, retail stores, attractions and other locations at the city level while leveraging various components of Web 2.0 and empowering users to generate content with images, reviews and more.

In the latest iteration users are presented with the opportunity to discover rewards as they engage in social activities on the website. For instance, if a user has reviewed certain business categories such as clubs in New York on a regular basis or has followed a certain number of people, they may find themselves receiving a ribbon from the ‘Genie’ as a reward.

Profile pages show the latest user activity, businesses reviewed, uploaded photographs, and ribbons that have been awarded. This information can then be quickly shared across other social media websites, such as Facebook and Twitter.

GenieKnows also provides local business owners with the ability to connect and engage customers who are searching and commenting on local businesses via the community element of GenieKnows.com, which effectively helps engage and potentially reward loyal patrons.
