An increased dose of vitamin D causes kidney stones - fact or fable? Fable. “There is a common misconception that vitamin D increases calcium absorption which might result in kidney stones. Extensive physiological studies, many done in my lab at Creighton, show that that is not correct. Rather, vitamin D enables the body's own regulation of absorption.” states Robert Heaney, M.D., & Professor of Medicine at Creighton University.
“We can prevent 50% of pre-term births by giving women 4000 IU/day of vitamin D.” says Dr. Carol Wagner of the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Wagner will be reporting on the results of a randomized controlled trial that enabled women to protect their children, both before and after birth.
Can we win the war on cancer, like breast cancer? “Yes.” says Cedric F. Garland, Dr. P.H. Professor, Department of Family and Preventive Medicine of the UCSD School of Medicine and Moores Cancer Center. “80% of breast cancer is what we call ‘plain old breast cancer’ and with vitamin D levels between 40-60 ng/ml, we can prevent 80% of breast cancer.” Dr. Garland will be speaking about cancer prevention at the seminar.
Join Dr. Heaney and other experts as we address common myths and explain how vitamin D works with calcium to create more disease resistant and disease free people.
