Over one quarter of all Americans (28.1%) now believe that health care reform is the no. 1 threat to America, according to new research conducted by the BeemerReport.com.
The second threat seen by 23.2% of Americans is 'out-of-control government spending'. The survey found that many Americans say these two issues are interwoven. Thus a majority of Americans are against health care reform and/or the runaway government spending that is associated with it, according to C. Britt Beemer, author of the BeemerReport.com and CEO of America's Research Group (ARG).
The third threat seen by 18.4% of Americans is President Obama's efforts to give government 'more control in our lives'. The fear of Al-Qaeda/Islamic extremists is virtually tied with their fear of President Obama's efforts to give government more control in our lives at 18.2%.
"When you stand back, you can see that health care reform, run-away government spending and President Obama's giving government more control can be connected issues so 69.7% of Americans believe President Obama's policies are the no. 1 threat to America," Beemer said. "Never before have so many feared their president, his policies and his direction for America," he added.
Government bailouts and take-overs of banks, auto companies and insurance at 12.1% is in fifth place in American's list of threats, which means one in eight families still worry about the wisdom of the U.S. Government getting involved with the private sector.
The research consisted of 1,000 telephone interviews conducted Friday, Saturday, Sunday, March 12, 13 and 14, at ARG headquarters in Charleston, SC. The error factor is plus or minus 3.8%.
