Linked Labs Launches Trunks. Geared Towards Developer Needs, at an Affordable Price.

Developing software may not be simple, but at least managing it can be with a brand new hosted source control service, Trunks, which gives developers unlimited repositories at an extraordinarily low price. Created by Linked Labs - a Lodi, CA based web application company - Trunks has been in beta since November, but just celebrated its official launch this March and proves to be a much-needed revolution in the source control service marketplace.

Geared towards the individual developer and focused solely on private repositories, Trunks was created out of frustration with other services which either focus on a single source control tool, or sell based on the number of private repositories. But, with Trunks, developers' needs come first.

Trunks recognizes that oftentimes, developers use multiple source control tools and want a similar experience from a hosted service for each. It is because of this that Trunks allows users to use the source control tool of their choice, whether it's Git, Mercurial or Subversion.

Another way Linked Labs has kept the user in mind is with Trunks' inexpensive pricing. In an age where saving money means everything, developers can have a hard time doing so because the cost of hosted source control services grow as they develop more. What Trunks has done is instead of charging per repository, it's offered in cost-effective prices based on the amount of disk space used, not the number of repositories.

"This way, developers can work on as many projects as they want and not be charged each time they open a new repository," says Trunks' creator Ken Robertson. "It's much more realistic, not just for the economy, but for developers' ever-growing collection of code."

The pricing for Trunks ranges anywhere from $25 per year to $100, depending on the amount of space used - giving much more for the money and for a longer period of time than most hosted source control services. Additionally, there's the option of a free account if a developer is collaborating on a project with another Trunks' user. Users can sign up for a free 30-day trial period of Trunks with its largest plan and zero risk.
