Tampa, FL (PRWEB) March 20, 2010
Starting today, laboratory and radiology procedures performed at BayCare Health System facilities are now being electronically shared with Clinical Neurosciences of Tampa Bay. This means that patient lab test and radiology orders and results can be shared instantly between these two providers, making it much easier for decisions to be made regarding patient care and much more convenient for patients who won’t have to wait days or even weeks for test results or the transmission of their records to providers.
Clinical Neurosciences is the first practice using Doctor’s Administrative Solutions’(DAS) electronic health record (EHR) by Aprima to make the connection to BayCare Health System. Doctors affiliated with Clinical Neurosciences of Tampa Bay will now receive electronic records of laboratory and radiology procedures performed on their patients at BayCare Health System facilities throughout Tampa Bay.
“This project linking BayCare and Clinical Neurosciences demonstrates incredible leadership and serves as a model for other providers in the Tampa Bay healthcare community,” said David Schlaifer, CEO of Doctor’s Administrative Solutions. “Fast, secure access to patient records and results will help improve patient safety, convenience and security while reducing overall costs.”
The BayCare exchange comes as the newest service offered through the Aprima EHR application by DAS via Dr-Connect, DAS’ community centric, electronically connected healthcare information exchange program. With Dr-Connect, physician’s offices have already been exchanging electronic laboratory requests and results with LabCorp and Quest Diagnostics, and have immediate access to patient prescription drug information and the ability prescribe electronically. Each of these exchanges populates patients’ medical records directly with pertinent data, provides trending information and tracks completion of prescribed tests.
Dr. Ajay Arora, of Clinical Neurosciences of Tampa Bay, explains the benefit of the project. “The added efficiency will result in better patient care, less time spent by doctors and staff chasing downs results on a daily basis, and lower practice overhead created by printing and scanning results as we have done in the past.”
Doctors Administrative Solutions was one of the pioneers of health information exchange in the Tampa Bay area, having coordinated an effort among local politicians, business owners, and health care providers to secure a multi-million dollar software grant for physicians in 2007, prevailing over 90 other competing cities. DAS has continued to pursue the mission of a connected healthcare community without requiring any government funding, which is now embodied as part of the national discussion on ways to improve the quality and affordability of healthcare.
Doctors’ Administrative Solutions (DAS) provides people-based technology solutions for physician practices through electronic health records (EHR) and related products, services, training, and the creation of a connected healthcare community. DAS changes the paradigm through a holistic approach that focuses on people and process along with technology, including on-site training and implementation, local customer support, and Total Cost of Ownership program that eliminates the hidden expenses associated with EHR deployment and continuing use.
