HSH.com launched new tools to help home buyers and homeowners track mortgage rate trends, as part of a major Web site upgrade.

"There has always been lots of great data at HSH.com, and we continue to look for new ways to help people as they search for a great loan," said vice president Keith Gumbinger. "These features and data are new entries in a long list of calculators, analysis and expertise designed to educate and inform the mortgage shopping process.

"Our deep survey data goes back a long way--decades, in some cases--and we are making more of it available on HSH.com for the first time."

The newly released features include:

  • Local and state pages to complement the site's national information. For instance, a Chicago homeowner considering refinancing is now able to view average interest rates in the past year for that city and automatically create a graph of the data.
  • An archive of weekly national mortgage rate data, which joins HSH.com's monthly series and stretches all the way back to 1986. "Long-haul historical trends can lend perspective to where we are today," Gumbinger observed, "and fresh updates can keep a visitor right in tune with today's marketplace."
  • Mortgage rate trends data that allow comparison of up to three loan products at the same time. Site visitors can drill down to state- or metropolitan area-level data for the selected loan products and see graphs of rate trends over time. "If you're wondering how 30-year fixed-rate mortgages have fared against 5/1 hybrid ARMs over time, you can now find out, quickly and easily," Gumbinger said.

More updates and upgrades to HSH.com are slated throughout 2010. "Faster and better graphing applications, new calculators, additional site content and a new consumer newsletter are planned," said Gumbinger. HSH.com is seeking visitor input right now to help fine-tune planned site revisions.
