Chief Outsiders Names Dana R. Brown, Dallas-based Technology Marketing Veteran, as New Principal and Opens Fourth Office to Include North Texas

Chief Outsiders (, a company committed to outsourcing executive level Chief Marketing Officers (CMO), today announced Dana R. Brown as Principal, and new CMO. Ms. Brown will join the original founders, Kirk Brand Coburn and Art Saxby. As Principal, Ms. Brown will be responsible for the initial launch and client acquisition within North Texas and Oklahoma and will work jointly with Coburn and Saxby to expand Chief Outsiders globally.

“Our initial goal was to solidify our presence within the Texas market by establishing a Dallas based office,” said Kirk Brand Coburn, co-founder at Chief Outsiders. “We were introduced to Dana and the synergies were apparent. Dana’s strong corporate background was evident and she embraced the same core values. As a new Principal, and member of the team, Dana will help enable Chief Outsider’s to excel as a premier executive marketing outsourcing firm. We look forward to benefiting from her operating expertise, strategic perspectives and broad industry relationships.”

"We are delighted to welcome Dana to the Chief Outsiders’ team,” said Art Saxby, co-founder at Chief Outsiders. “Dana has a unique skill set of marketing expertise from concept through exit strategy with start-ups and mid-size companies. As a former CEO, entrepreneur and chief marketing officer, Dana has executed private equity rounds, launched and led successful businesses, and made and monetized investments across varies sectors. We believe the extensive experience and unique skill set she brings to Chief Outsiders will prove invaluable to our existing and future portfolio companies," added Saxby.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Chief Outsiders team and bringing this unique service to the North Texas market”, said Brown. “North Texas is uniquely positioned for growth. This area is expected to outpace the rest of the nation with a projected five-year growth rate of 4.1% and is to capture 35% of the population and 28% of job growth in Texas over the same time period (Perryman Group, 2009). Additionally, our area’s growth and mid-size companies contribute nearly $1B in revenue to the local economy. Helping these companies navigate the path to growth is where Chief Outsiders excels”.

One of Brown’s first opportunities to tell the Chief Outsider’s story will be at the upcoming Gazelles Sales & Marketing Summit, co-hosted with Fortune magazine, April 20 – 22, 2010. Brown will be presenting on the topic “The CEO is #1 Marketing Executive”. This presentation focuses on debunking the myth that the CMO is the #1 marketing executive for the company and instead, that distinction belongs to the CEO. The Chief Marketing Officer’s role is to be the #2 marketer and to translate the CEO's vision and value proposition into an insightful and actionable plan that delivers measureable results.

In 2009, Brown founded The Octane Group, a management consulting firm dedicated to helping businesses maximize their performance. Prior to founding The Octane Group, Brown served as Chief Marketing & Business Development Officer for Ignite Technologies, the leading provider of enterprise-wide video and rich media delivery solutions for Global 2000 companies. At Ignite, Brown was responsible for market strategy, branding, product positioning and messaging, and strategic alliances.

Brown also served as President and Chief Executive Officer at Ipsum Networks, a privately held company that developed route analytics solutions to optimize IP traffic within corporate enterprise and telecommunications networks.

Prior to Ipsum, Brown co-founded MetaSolv Software, a global market leading software and services company focused on the world’s largest telecommunications providers. As Chief Marketing Officer, Brown launched strategic partnerships with consulting firms, including Accenture, Ernst & Young, and KPMG for worldwide implementations. Brown became widely recognized within the industry analyst, trade press and financial communities as a leading spokesperson and innovator in positioning OSS (Operational Support Solutions) to the growing communications market. MetaSolv completed a successful IPO with a market cap of $4B and went on to acquire multiple international companies to accelerate growth. Ultimately, MetaSolv was acquired by Oracle and its solution continues to be a market leader in the telecommunications industry.
