Maple hardwood court was constructed in Amasa, Michigan, and finished in Milwaukee. It's all ready for the Big Dance in Indianapolis April 3-5

The countdown to the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Final Four® is underway, as a semi-truck and trailer carrying the Championship Court made by Connor Sport Court goes on display on Tuesday, March 23 at Connor's Arlington Heights Offices, 545 East Algonquin Road.

The playing court comes to Arlington Heights from Milwaukee where Connor's finishing partner, Jason Thomas Flooring, has put the final touches on the surface.

The court was constructed in Amasa, Michigan at Connor's mill. Painting of the surface was completed in Milwaukee, with the NCAA logos shining brightly on the hardwood maple floor. Connor has been in the court building business since 1872.

The court, a QuickLock™ portable court system, was constructed by Connor Sports Flooring specifically for the NCAA Final Four. It is built from northern hardwood maple in strict accordance with NCAA specifications. Connor Sports Flooring is a member of the Maple Flooring Manufacturing Association (MFMA) and adheres to the stringent manufacturing guidelines of that organization. Connor also offers wood environmentally-certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, which identifies products from responsibly-managed forests.

Connor Sports Flooring is a Zero Waste company. Recycling, avoiding waste, innovative technology and a strong environmental consciousness are a major part of Connor's corporate policy. Hardwood used in the courts is from a renewable resource, with the U.S. growing six times more hardwood than is harvested each year, said Ron Cerny, President and CEO of Connor Sport Court. Connor Sport Court International is headquartered in Salt Lake City, UT, and its hardwood surface sales offices are headed by CSCI Vice President and General Manager Jon Isaacs in Arlington Heights, IL.

The history of the NCAA basketball playoffs is entwined with the court on which the game is played, and Connor Floors figure prominently in this history.

The company is recognizing its Arlington Heights sales staff with its stop here as it makes its way to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, where the Men's Final Four Championships will be played April 3-5. The specially marked truck and semi-trailer will make the following stops on its way to Indianapolis

Monday, March 22--Marquette University, Milwaukee.
Tuesday, March 23--Chicago--Arlington Heights
Wednesday, March 24--Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana
Thursday, March 25--Butler University, NCAA Headquarters, Lucas Oil Stadium
Friday, March 26--Installation in Lucas Oil Stadium.

At Jason Thomas Flooring in Milwaukee, finishers lay out the floor and then carefully sand the surface... Two coats of seal follow to keep the finish and paint from being absorbed. Then the logos and other decorative elements are painted on the court. Finally, one coat of gloss provides that familiar shine that says "Final Four" basketball.    From the finishers it is shipped to the playing sites. Floors from past championships have often been purchased by winning schools, with some being sold as part of the fund raising effort for that college's athletics, said Ron Cerny. He added that Connor also provides the playing surface for the NCAA Women's Championships, this year scheduled for April 4-6 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
