Newly-christened as CCC Remodeling and Handyman Services, owner Kenny Fritzler has announced an end to a franchise relationship as well as a move away from traditional phone book advertising in favor of internet marketing focused on the Vancouver, WA and Portland, OR markets.

"From what I read, I'm following two schools of business thinking. One is that entrepreneurs forego the constraints of a franchise in a weak economy. The other is that internet marketing has surpassed the effectiveness of phone book advertising."

"Embracing those trends, I can now channel the money I was spending on franchise royalties into a new marketing direction." Fritzler has shifted his advertising spending to Search Engine Optimization, or SEO. "If you aren't on the first page of a search it's like you don't exist at all. You will see CCC Remodeling and Handyman Services on page one."

Fritzler points out that monthly franchise fees never vary, and as an independent he can allow that line item to expand and contract in line with economic conditions. He previously did business as Handyman Matters, the franchisee.

"You're weighing brand recognition against the fixed cost of franchise licensing. I decided a brand without enough business has no value."
