The Association of Strategic Alliance Professionals (ASAP) today announced the appointment of Russ Buchanan, vice president of worldwide alliances at Xerox, as chairman of the board of directors. Buchanan succeeds outbound Chairman Mike Leonetti, the head of healthcare partnerships at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

Buchanan was promoted from vice chairman, a position he has held since 2009. An ASAP member since 2005, Buchanan has also held the title of treasurer and served on the organization’s committee tasked with putting together its Global Summit, the foremost annual gathering of the profession’s leaders and a premier forum for information sharing.

Buchanan has spearheaded ASAP global sponsor Xerox to great success with its alliance program, which now contributes significantly to the company’s bottom line. “In my five years with the organization, ASAP’s knowledge, education, training and community have significantly advanced Xerox as an organization and benefitted me personally and professionally,” said Buchanan. “I look forward to furthering ASAP’s goal of advancing the discipline of collaborative business, an increasingly critical skill for thriving in the business climate of today and tomorrow.”

Leonetti concludes a successful tenure that saw a continuing increase in membership, sponsorship, the number of regional chapters and attendance and influence of the ASAP Global Summit. Leonetti also solidified the organization’s financial base and expanded its industry standard certification program. In this time, ASAP saw the addition of several new subcommittees and specialized events including the Biopharm Council and Biopharm Conference; Collaborative Innovation Council and Inaugural Forum; Academic Council and webinar series.

“Russ Buchanan is one of the world’s preeminent alliance professionals, and ASAP looks forward to strengthening its position as the number one source for insights, networking and best practices in alliance management under his direction,” said Art Canter, president and executive director of ASAP.
