"With last week's release of the February inflation figures by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the inflation-adjusted amounts for health savings accounts (HSAs) for 2011 are coming into view," says Roy Ramthun, Senior Vice President of HSA Clearing Corp. "We can now project the 2011 numbers for HSAs with virtual certainty."

HSA Clearing Corp, the leading Health Savings Account setup provider for financial institutions, is now projecting the 2011 amounts for HSAs.

"With the release of the February inflation figures by the Bureau of Labor Statistics last week, the inflation-adjusted amounts for health savings accounts (HSAs) for 2011 are coming into view," says Roy Ramthun, Senior Vice President of HSA Clearing Corp. "With all but one of the data points known, we can now project the 2011 numbers for HSAs with virtual certainty."

Because of the enactment of the Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006 (P.L. 109-432), the data period for calculating the inflation adjustments has moved forward five months. The U.S. Treasury Department is required to publish the inflation-adjusted amounts for the upcoming year for HSAs by June 1 each year.

Ramthun has predicted the maximum HSA contributions (not including catch-up contributions) for individuals with self-only coverage or family coverage in 2011. The annual catch-up contribution for individuals age 55 or older is set by statute. Ramthun also predicts the changes for the HSA-qualified insurance plans as well.

"Most insurance carriers will also need these numbers for their deductibles and out-of-pocket limits for 2011," Ramthun says. "Companies can begin to finalize their 2011 plans, even though the official inflation adjusted amounts for HSAs will not be published until later this Spring."

If you’re a financial institution, TPA, or employee benefit advisor but are not using HSA Clearing Corp as your provider of Health Savings Account information, you may not have the most accurate information. Roy Ramthun offers an e-book on HSAs entitled “The Common Sense Guide to Health Savings Accounts” which is updated throughout the year.
