“Good Vibrations was founded on the principle that pleasure is a birthright. We support the women on their journey back to reclaiming their bodies, their pleasure, their birthright."

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) March 24, 2010

Good Vibrations, the legendary San Francisco-based retailer that takes pride in providing accurate information on sexuality and toys for grown-ups, is proud to announce its upcoming quarterly partnership with Clitoraid as part of their corporate giving initiative, “GiVe.”

This Summer, Good Vibrations’ customers can give the gift of pleasure to women around the world who suffered female genital mutilation (FGM) during childhood. They can do this by making a financial gift to Clitoraid at the time of their Good Vibrations purchase. Clitoraid, a nonprofit humanitarian organization, helps women restore their ability to enjoy sex by offering reconstructive surgery free of charge.

So far they have performed 11 surgeries at the St. Joseph hospital in Trinidad, Colorado and are building what has been dubbed “the pleasure hospital” in Burkina Faso, a land-locked country in sub-Saharan West Africa that will be devoted solely to this practice. One hundred women are scheduled for surgery, and the wait list grows longer every day. Dr. Marcy Bowers became the first U.S. surgeon to successfully perform this type of restorative surgery when several Clitoraid-sponsored women traveled to Bowers’ clinic in Colorado to have the operation in 2009.

Says Good Vibrations’ Chief Operating Officer, Jackie Strano, “Good Vibrations was founded on the principle that pleasure is a birthright. We support the women on their journey back to reclaiming their bodies, their pleasure, their birthright. We are confident in the compassion of our customers and we are committed to assisting this humanitarian issue.”

In March 2010 Good Vibrations sent a big box of bath and body treats and vibrators to new patients undergoing reconstructive surgery in Colorado. Patients were from Asia, Canada, the US, Europe, and Africa, and they were eager to discover what they were missing. Good Vibrations has joined forces with Vibratex, the creators of the Magic Wand vibrator, to incorporate high-quality toys into the post-op physical therapy sessions with esteemed sexologist and sex educator Betty Dodson.

Included in the care packages was the “Pleasure Me Purse” from Good Vibrations, which features the Magic Touch Bullet Mini Vibrator, a small, high-powered vibrator. Among the recipients was a woman who had undergone surgery several months prior, and had yet to experience an orgasm from her reconstructed clitoris. After the women received their gifts and went to bed, the head of patient care got a call at midnight from an ecstatic woman who apologized for waking her but had to share: dismayed by the smallness of her clitoris, she disregarded the larger vibrator in favor of the bullet vibe. Much to her surprise and delight, she had her first orgasm!

Dr. Carol Queen, Good Vibrations’ staff Sexologist and company spokesperson explains, "No form of physical therapy for a women with this type of nerve damage is likely to be as successful as vibrator use, so we are thrilled to be able to provide something truly useful to the women served by Clitoraid. With the kind of consistent stimulation a vibrator provides, neural pathways may actually be able to grow, supporting the surgical intervention of Clitoraid's doctors. The clitoris is devoted to carrying pleasurable sensations, and Clitoraid is giving women back their birthright!”
