New courses aligned to state Content Standards and Objectives; designed to improve student performance on the state WESTEST 2

High school students in West Virginia just got a big "leg up" in their efforts to prepare for the WESTEST 2, the state's high stakes exam that determines advancement, graduation status, and a school's status meeting Adequate Yearly Progress goals. That's because Archipelago Learning, a leading online education company, today announced the release of new math and English courses for its Study Island WESTEST 2 Preparation Program. Study Island is an easy to use, web-based educational program that provides standards-based instruction, practice, assessment and productivity tools that improve the performance of K-12 students and their teachers.

Designed to help West Virginia students improve their knowledge and understanding of the content specified in the state Content Standards and Objectives (CSOs), the Study Island WESTEST 2 Preparation Program helps K-12 students master state-specific, grade-level academic standards in a fun, engaging manner. With content and questions built directly from state standards and real-time reporting on student achievement, teachers can easily differentiate instruction and promptly deliver targeted interventions to address learning gaps.

"Two of the Obama administration's priorities for K-12 education are to prepare students to be college-ready and to help them compete on a global basis. Thus, it is critical for high school students to master the Content Standards and Objectives and perform well on the WESTEST 2," said Allison Duquette, chief marketing officer at Archipelago Learning. "The challenge is that students learn in different ways and at different paces. Utilizing Study Island allows teachers to customize learning and concentrate on individual student areas for additional emphasis. It's an extremely cost-effective way to give students exactly what they need to perform well on exams, to increase graduation rates, and to improve overall AYP status for their school and district."

Designed with dynamic content, built-in remediation, real-time reporting, engaging content, and an interactive game mode, Study Island High School Math and English programs join Study Island's existing library of programs for the state of West Virginia which include:

  • 2nd Grade Math and Reading
  • 3rd - 8th Grade Math, Reading, Science, and Social Studies
