Hyatt Regency Irvine, a leading hotel near John Wayne Airport in Southern California, is proud to announce that they are the recipient of The California Integrated Waste Management Board's (WRAP) 2009 Waste Reduction Award.

Since year 2000, Hyatt Regency Irvine, a John Wayne Airport hotel, has searched to find various ways to enhance our green program to protect the environment, following the best practice "reduce, reuse and recycle," motto.

"We are grateful to the California Integrated Waste Management Board for their recognition of our concerted efforts to better our hotel's impact on the environment," says Colleen Kareti, General Manager of the Hyatt Regency Irvine. "We are continually striving to reduce our carbon footprint and to bring new green initiatives to the property."

The John Wayne Airport hotel's initiatives include: recycling of fifteen different types of waste materials including nearly all food waste, using a hot water re-claimer in to collect all washing machine wastewater to pre-heat the domestic water before it enters the laundry boiler, use of environmentally-friendly pool chemicals, compact fluorescent bulb lighting in all guestrooms and corridors, EnergyStarTM appliances, low-flow showerheads and sinks, an automatic temperature set back when the room is not occupied and use of only environmentally-save cleaners in guestrooms.

The hotel near John Wayne airport is also planning to install LED lighting in guestrooms and public areas to further reduce energy usage without reducing the light level.
