Cedar Park, Texas (PRWEB) March 27, 2010
Construction is officially underway on the five-mile, northern extension of the 183A toll road in Williamson County, following a ground breaking ceremony on Thursday, March 25, 2010. The project is being paid for through the sale of toll revenue bonds that will be repaid over the next 30 years by drivers who choose to use the road.
“The 183A northern extension project is a great example of how our region's investment in toll roads is starting to pay big dividends,” says Mobility Authority Board Chairman, Ray Wilkerson. “While other communities are struggling with significant transportation funding shortfalls, we have been able to leverage the success of 183A and double the length of the original roadway.”
The $105 million 183A Northern Extension will be a limited-access toll road with three lanes in each direction. It will be constructed in the median of the existing frontage roads from FM 1431 in Cedar Park to north of RM 2243 in Leander. The frontage roads will remain non-tolled. The extension project is being built seven years earlier than originally planned, due to traffic volumes that have exceeded projections.
“The first phase of 183A has been tremendously popular with drivers,” says Wilkerson. “On any given weekday, more than 30,000 drivers pass through our Park Street Main Toll Plaza. Even with the current economic downturn, the number of people choosing to use 183A has continued to increase," added Wilkerson.
