Welcome spring with outdoor adventures on land and on the river! At Adventures on the Gorge (http://www.adventuresonthegorge.com), spring has arrived. The first guests of the season, the Wilderness Wise science class, visited early and enjoyed the water at the southeastern West Virginia outdoor destination.

This is the tenth year that science teacher Michael Thomas has brought his high school senior science class from Williamsville NY Central School District High School to Lansing for a whitewater rafting trip in early March.

“We officially get our season started with this enthusiastic group of kids,” said Dave Arnold, communications director for Adventures on the Gorge. “Once we’ve had that visit, we know that it’s rafting season and time to gear up with all of our other outdoor recreation offerings.”

This year, Adventures on the Gorge will offer a new Bridge Walk activity. Bridge Walk allows guests to cross the New River Gorge on the catwalk of the New River Gorge Bridge.

“It’s a thrill for anyone who wants to see the river from this aerial angle,” Arnold said.

Adventures on the Gorge offers whitewater rafting trips through its partners, Class VI-Mountain River and Rivermen. The trip options include half and full day excursions, overnight trips and multi-river packages for guests who want to enjoy the best of the New and Gauley rivers.

TreeTops Canopy Tour (http://www.newrivergorgecanopytour.com), a 3 1/2-hour tour through the forest on the rim of the New River Gorge, includes 10 zip lines, skywalk bridges, short hikes and an easy rappel.

In addition to these on-site activities, the destination offers hiking and mountain biking, fly fishing, paintball, mountain climbing and other outdoor recreation activities.

Guests can choose from rustic tent camping to well-appointed cabin rentals, with additional selections in between. Three restaurants and bars on the property provide dining and entertainment options.
