One Dollar from Each Kansas City Smashburger Sold April 1-8 Benefits The 54 Foundation.

Smashburger, a fast-casual “better burger” restaurant will open its first location on April 1, 2010 at 6551 West 119th Street (just east of Metcalf in The Fountains Shopping Center) in Overland Park, Kansas.

As part of the grand opening celebration, Smashburger is partnering with Brian Waters’ charitable organization, The 54 Foundation. As a guard for the Kansas City Chiefs, 10-year National Football League (NFL) veteran and recent recipient of the Walter Payton Man of the Year award, Brian Waters is well known for his work on the football field and in the communities in which he lives and works.

In 2004, Waters established the Foundation and has since awarded 82 college scholarships to low-income students. His back-to-school program has helped thousands of children by providing them with backpacks loaded with school supplies, haircuts, uniforms, shoes, immunizations and dental care. In recognition of Waters’ dedication to the community, Smashburger will donate $1 from each Kansas City Smashburger sold April 1 to 8, 2010 to The 54 Foundation to support its continued efforts as champions for under-privileged children.

The Kansas City Smashburger, starts with 100-percent Certified Angus Beef and is topped with grilled onions, garlic sautéed mushrooms, Swiss cheese and haystack onions with A.1. Steak Sauce- served on an egg bun.

Named for the cooking method used to create the perfect burger, Smashburgers are a one-third or half-pound ball of 100-percent - fresh, not frozen - Certified Angus Beef smashed on a flat grill to sear in the juicy flavor. To further the “better burger” experience, Smashburgers are served on a toasted artisan bun and topped with a selection of real cheeses, the freshest produce, and top-quality condiments.

Smashburger is known for its savory burgers, but the restaurant also serves up delicious Smashchicken sandwiches, Smashdogs, and Smashsalads, with sides like veggie frites and rosemary and garlic–seasoned Smashfries. Burger lovers can pair their meals with beer, wine, Häagen-Dazs shakes and root-beer floats.

“We are looking forward to our partnership with the 54 Foundation and Brian Waters,” says Smashburger Founder Tom Ryan. “We fully support their mission of working with Kansas City’s under-privileged children.”

“I am proud to partner with Smashburger to raise awareness about the work of The 54 Foundation and join in celebrating Smashburger’s grand opening in Kansas City,” says Brian Waters, Kansas City Chiefs’ Guard and founder of The 54 Foundation.
