One Predicto member summed up his reasoning for siding with Duke: “I’m going against my gut this time.”
New York, NY (PRWEB) April 5, 2010
After five thrilling rounds, one game remains before 2010’s NCAA crown is decided in Indianapolis. Shrewd hoops fans may have foreseen such a topsy-turvy tourney, given the number of top-ranked teams knocked off during the regular season. The regularity of buzzer-beaters and exhilarating upsets during March Madness caught many more off guard, even the mobile voters at Predicto.com, the online home of Snackable Media’s popular text messaging community.
While UConn has proven unbeatable in the Women’s brackets, so many high seeds fell off during the first two weeks of the Men’s Tournament that much of the Predicto community even forecast upsets during the weekend’s Final Four semifinals. Texting in their votes up until game time, 51% figured on West Virginia to redeem the otherwise disappointing Big East and defeat Duke. Even those who accurately predicted victory for the Blue Devils didn’t necessarily base their vote on the team’s #1 seed. One Predicto member summed up his reasoning for siding with Duke: “I’m going against my gut this time.”
On the other side of the bracket Predicto preconceptions were a little more justified, as 62% of Predicto Mobile voters thought Michigan State would beat Butler. Both schools were #5 seeds, but given Spartan coach Tom Izzo’s winning tradition and the fact Butler's players didn't even get to skip class Friday, Michigan State seemed a clear favorite. Yet Saturday’s defensive masterpiece by the Bulldogs earned them a spot in tonight’s Championship game, leaving us with one more David vs. Goliath matchup.
Will Butler be the ultimate hometown heroes before the Indianapolis crowd? Or will Duke’s Coach, Olympic Gold medalist and three-time NCAA champ Mike Krzyzewski add to his accolades? Will voters cheer on Butler because they’re underdogs, or root against Duke because they're the team everybody loves to hate?
SMS votes and comments on tonight’s “Final Foe” championship game will be updated live on the Predicto.com March Madness page.
