We hope that this small gesture of providing the bus for the school will help the children in their extracurricular activities, and in turn, improve their preparation for the world outside this school.

As part of its ongoing, on-ground efforts to improve the lives and opportunities of those in need, direct selling company QuestNet and its Independent Representatives recently embarked on two separate projects in the region of Almaty.

The first was donating a desperately needed new school bus for the Regional Special Boarding School for Hearing Impaired Children in Taldykorgan, in the Almaty region of Kazakhstan.

The second was providing emergency supplies to flood victims in the village of Kyzyl-Agash, where 39 people lost their lives and over a thousand were made homeless when a reservoir near the village broke its dam, unleashing torrents of almost 2 metres of freezing water.

“It was about 1.00am when all of us were asleep,” said an old woman in the village. “Within 20 minutes, almost everything was destroyed. All that’s left of my house is one room. Thankfully my whole family is safe, and we are living in there now with no heating.”

Upon learning of the villagers’ plight, QuestNet IRs immediately sprung into action to collect warm clothing for the victims of the flood. Together with QuestNet, money was also collected to buy emergency food supplies for the victims of the flood. The supplies were delivered directly to the emergency centre of operations at the village itself.

“As a result of this flood, most of the villagers are now housed in other areas, seeking temporary shelter,” explained Serik Meirkhanovich, Deputy Secretary to Mayor of Almaty Region - Education, Health & Social Sphere. “The government of Kazakhstan has made a commitment to rebuild all the homes, and in three months, this village will be even better than before,” he added with conviction. “We are also thankful to companies like QuestNet, who have responded to this tragedy to help provide the villagers immediate relief.”

The emergency supplies were transported to the village the day before by the very same bus which was to be donated to the Regional Special Boarding School for Hearing Impaired Children.

The bus-handover ceremony took place in conjunction with the school’s animated annual concert, performed by the children as part of the Kazakh New Year celebrations.

The school children’s plight was originally brought to QuestNet’s attention by QuestNet Independent Representatives (IRs) in the city who identified the children’s need for transportation after discovering that the school’s old bus had not been operational for many years.

“This bus will serve the children for many years to come and we are extremely grateful that an international company such as QuestNet would take the effort to help children in need from a small city in Kazakhstan,” said Sharip Duisenbekovich, Director of the School at the bus-handing over ceremony. “I am also thankful to the QuestNet’s Independent Representatives in Taldykorgan, for without them, the school will not have a new bus today.”

The Taldykorgan school has 159 hearing-impaired students aged 5-18; almost all the students live permanently in the school’s dormitories as their parents are unable to provide the appropriate care for the children’s special needs. The school provides its students with programmes that aim to develop their skills and individual abilities and is subsidised by the Kazakh government. However, transportation is the one area of the children’s lives where the school does not receive any funding assistance.

During the concert, Bernhard H. Mayer, representative of RYTHM Foundation, the official Corporate Social Responsibility arm of QuestNet, in his speech, included a minute of silence for lives lost in the flood.
“One of our underlying motivations is our belief that children are our future. The ‘QuestNet Pays Forward’ initiative and RYTHM Foundation are committed to ensuring a safe and supportive environment that every child rightly deserves to grow up in,” said Mr. Mayer. “We hope that this small gesture of providing the bus for the school will help the children in their extracurricular activities, and in turn, improve their preparation for the world outside this school.”

The compassion of QuestNet Independent Representatives, which come about from the company’s philosophy of wanting to help others is a prime example of RYTHM principle. The concept of RYTHM – Raise Yourself To Help Mankind – has from the start been what the company is all about.
