Little Cool Toys announces the opening of its web store at http://www.littlecooltoys.com. The company specializes in natural toys made from wood, organic and recycled material with an emphasis on good quality and the ability to stand up to many hours of imaginative play.
The point is a crucial one because play, and especially unstructured imaginative play, is a serious business. According to the American Association of Pediatrics 'free and unstructured play is healthy and - in fact - essential for helping children reach important social, emotional, and cognitive developmental milestones as well as helping them manage stress and become resilient'. In fact play is so important that a 'right' to play was enshrined in the International Convention on the Rights of the Child. (Article 31)
Parents agree that play is essential, but props for unstructured imaginative play are becoming more difficult to find in a world dominated by battery operated talking toys which are often based on TV or movie stories/characters and hence have their own, ready made story.
Little Cool Toys specializes in simple organic toys, like cars made of recycled materials, wooden trains and rockets, soft toys and dolls which come with no 'built in' story, few parts to 'fail' and no connection to film or television. These allow children to give full reign to their imagination, crafting their own tales, giving the toys their own characters and voices as well as adventures. This is especially important at the pre-school and young toddler stage where children learn to think for themselves before going to school.
Eva Bernth Castonguay, the Danish born founder of Little Cool Toys says, "I came to Canada in 2007 with my Canadian husband and new born son. Straight away I found it difficult to get the sort of toys I had known at home in Denmark, simple, solid natural toys which were well made. Eventually I found some great manufacturers in Canada, the USA and Europe and so I decided to open a web based store to help other Canadian mothers with the same concern; how to find good quality eco-friendly children's educational toys."
Little Cool Toys contains a wide range of natural toys, from brightly colored soft toys, to wooden rockets trains and cars, rag dolls and some excellent craft kits designed to boost creativity and provide many happy hours of parent child interaction. All the toys are made from non-toxic materials and conform with both American and European safety standards. Children learn through play, but if their toys fall apart after only a few hours they may not be learning the right lessons.
"A well rounded imaginative life is essential to a child's self esteem, but can be missing in these days of computer based and battery operated toys where little imagination is needed, and this is where 'little cool toys' excel," says Eva Bernth Castonguay.
With prices ranging from $5 to $95 there is something for everyone and the store is set to become the place to buy when you want good, solid, beautiful, safe and eco-friendly children's toys.
