Our goal is to increase the marathon’s donation to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children year after year

Yesterday evening, at a ceremony at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC), the Dallas White Rock Marathon (DWRM) board and sponsors presented TSRHC with a check for $362,000, the largest single year donation to the hospital in the marathon’s history.

Since being named the beneficiary of the race in 1997, TSRHC has received over $1.3 million in donations from the Dallas White Rock Marathon, including funds raised through the Active.com online giving program.

“Our goal is to increase the marathon’s donation to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children year after year,” said Phil Baker, chairman of the DWRM board of directors. “As awareness and participation in our marathon, half marathon and relay grows, so grows our contribution and commitment to this very worthy beneficiary and to all of the patient families whose children are treated at this hospital completely free of charge.”

The patients at TSRHC also serve as motivation to the organizers and runners of the race, noted Marcus Grunewald, DWRM executive race director:

“It’s nothing short of inspiring to see the TSRHC patient families cheering the runners to the finish line on race day, or to be inundated by the groups of friends and family members running the marathon, half marathon to raise money on behalf of patients at the hospital. But the most moving moments on race day are the ones that leave us all a little teary eyed: when patients and former patients cross the finish lines themselves. It’s a poignant reminder of why we do what we do every year.”
