Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) April 3, 2010
Arizona Central recently encouraged community outreach by helping St. Mary’s Food Bank through Central Cares, its Employee Volunteer Program. Arizona Central worked in conjunction with the Food Bank over three Saturdays in February and March to help reach its goals of preparing food for distribution to those in need within Arizona.
The activities were diverse and ranged from sorting vegetables and non-perishable canned goods to gleaning, the activity of picking citrus fruit from neighborhood homes. Arizona Central volunteers helped sort 6,016 lbs. potatoes and 40,000 lbs. of canned foods. The group also helped bag 7,800 lbs. of carrots and glean 3,000 lbs. of grapefruit from neighborhood trees.
"I enjoyed doing work in the community with my son,” said Martha Perea, an Arizona Central employee and volunteer. “It’s important he sees there are many in need and that we must to do something to help. This was a rewarding experience, as well as a great team-building activity with all those involved!"
Arizona Central anticipates being involved in future activities that will continue to help strengthen and build Arizona communities.
