Are you an aspiring Country Music singer trying to get noticed by the big labels? Have you been thinking about going to Nashville to record and promote yourself, but you are nervous about getting lost in the shuffle, or scammed? Well now there is an alternative – Nashville Alternative. The Web site, http://www.nashvillealternative.com, is a portal for talented new artists in Country, Americana, Alt-country, Bluegrass and Gospel, which enters musicians into a database roster of contenders to be signed to a “Major Indie” type recording contract. The premise is that it operates nationally, mostly outside of Nashville, as opposed the myriad of local Nashville talent scouts and recording studios serving the Country music community today.
The company is overseen by the executive officers at Lure Records, a label with more Top Ten hits than any other Indie label in the past two years. They operate under a new business model for a record label, in which the artist is steered toward independent investors once a recording and promotional budget is established by the label. This way, the artist is able to maintain 100% control over the financial returns. Thus, the artist can not only quickly recoup, but also make big returns during their rise to the top. The artists, once signed, are then recorded and promoted in such a way that they compete directly with major label talent through national music industry radio charts and worldwide press.
So far, the model has worked extremely well for Lure Records and its artist roster. Although Lure is a platform label for new artists, many long-time Country music fans will recognize some of the honorary names on the label from the Grand Ole Opry: Charlie Louvin, The Tennessee Three (Johnny Cash’s Band), Jack Greene, Van Howard and Joe Berry. Recently, one of Lure’s debut artists, Dustin Neighbors, went all the way to #1 on Indie World Country, the Nashville chart rating the best Indie Country artists in the world. Lure artists have also had three #1 "Country most added for radio" songs, beating out current greats such as Brad Paisley, Miranda Lambert, Bucky Covington, Taylor Swift, Toby Keith, Sugarland and others. Lure Records has been recognized for three Grammy nominations, a #1 on the European Country Music Awards and a top five nomination for “True Country Label of the Year” by the Roots Music Association.
Nashville Alternative was founded by award-winning producer Todd Washburn and legendary music promoter Ken Pearson (Traditional Country Music Hall of Fame, Alabama Music Hall of Fame), both of whom not only preside on the board or directors at Lure Records, but also run other full-time professional music companies, Washburn Mastering, LLC, Blue Springs Music, LLC and Avaland Music Publishing (BMI).
