Portland, OR (PRWEB) April 7, 2010
JanRain, Inc., (http://www.janrain.com) provider of the leading user management platform for the social Web, today announced the release of iPhone app support for its RPX software solution. RPX, an enterprise class SaaS offering, enables any website to quickly authenticate users through a third party identity provider, supporting 16 providers and platforms including Google, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo! , and LinkedIn. Companies who offer an application for the iPhone will be able to use RPX for the iPhone to enable users to authenticate with existing identity profiles. Over 200,000 websites are currently leveraging RPX, including companies such as Eastman Kodak, FOXNews, Tribune Interactive, and Universal Music Group.
“The rapid growth of the smart phone has accelerated the need for simplified log-in and registration processes through mobile devices for an enhanced consumer experience when using the mobile Web,” said Brian Kissel, CEO, JanRain. “The launch of RPX for the iPhone is the first component of JanRain’s comprehensive mobile strategy that will allow for a personalized user experience across multiple platforms.”
RPX for the iPhone follows the same flow as the web-based RPX software. Just as the web-based application returns the user to the exact location on the Web page following authentication, RPX for the iPhone returns the user to the same place in the iPhone application, enabling a more efficient and streamlined consumer experience. In addition, the software’s functionality is optimized for the iPhone screen.
“Earlier this year, we implemented JanRain’s RPX on the Tungle website to improve the registration process for our customers. The availability of RPX for the iPhone is a great extension, and will enable us to offer the same great user experience regardless of platform,” said Fang Yang, CTO, Tungle Corporation, an online personal and social scheduling service which lets business people easily publish availability, accept appointment requests, and plan meetings. “The Tungle iPhone app has proven to be extremely popular as more of our customers rely on the mobile web to conduct business.”
RPX for the iPhone includes the same key features as the JanRain web-based RPX software. The number of providers displayed and the order in which they appear can be customized and RPX remembers the last preferred provider, ensuring a positive return experience for users.
RPX for the iPhone maintains the look and feel of the iPhone SDK and enables organizations to authenticate customers through iPhone’s native UIKit as opposed to the traditional web based RPX application. Users can browse configured providers from a single-column table view, as opposed to the application’s two-column view, to maximize the real estate of the iPhone screen.
The iPhone functionality is available now to all JanRain RPX customers. To learn more, and see screen shots of the user interface, please visit the JanRain blog at: http://blog.janrain.com/
