Denver, CO (PRWEB) April 7, 2010
Swisslog, a leading provider of automated materials transport and pharmacy automation solutions for hospitals, today announced that 76 of its customers have been named to the Thompson Reuters list of the Top 100 U.S. Hospitals for 2009.
Published annually since 1993, the Thompson Reuters Top 100 Hospitals study evaluates the overall performance of U.S. hospitals in nine key areas: mortality, medical complications, patient safety, average length of stay, expenses, profitability, cash-to-debt ratio, patient satisfaction, and adherence to clinical standards of care.
Thompson Reuters researchers evaluated 3,000 short-term, acute care, non-federal hospitals. They used public information to compile their results.
Based on the results of its study, Thompson Reuters concluded that if all Medicare inpatients received the same level of care as patients treated in the winning hospitals:
1. More than 107,500 additional patients would survive each year;
2. Nearly 132,000 patient complications would be avoided annually;
3. Expenses would decline by $5.9 billion a year; and
4. The average patient stay would decrease by nearly half a day.
“All of us at Swisslog are very proud to be partners with so many of the prestigious hospitals in the Top 100 Hospitals list for 2009,” said Charlie Kegley, president of Swisslog Healthcare Solutions’ North American division. “Our materials transport and pharmacy automation systems are designed to aid our customers in delivering quality healthcare faster, safer and with greater efficiency.
