The original series has had a tremendous global impact over the last 28 years, but technology has made huge strides since those programs were first produced. Animation is extremely popular around the world with not only children but also adults, so CBN has re-imagined a new version of Superbook with state of the art 3-D animation, which will enable us to reach a new generation of viewers.

The Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN) will re-launch its tremendously successful Superbook TV series with 13 all new stories relevant to today's generation and created with state of the art 3-D animation. CBN hopes to roll out the new series in 2011. Gordon Robertson, CEO of CBN, made the announcement.

The animated series launched in 1981 in an effort to bring the Bible to the nation of Japan. Featuring a recurring trio of characters (Chris, Joy and Gizmo), the TV series tells the major stories of the Bible in a fun, animated format that people of all ages and cultures can relate to. During its launch in Japan, it is estimated that over 4 million people watched each weekly episode of Superbook on television, resulting in the Bible becoming the best-selling book in that country. To date, the series has now been broadcast in over 106 countries, translated into 43 languages, and viewed by over 500 million people.

To revive the series with new stories and 3-D animation, CBN has assembled an international team of award-winning writers, producers, designers, musicians and animators from Hollywood to Beijing, with credits including Disney's The Lion King, Mulan, and Beauty and the Beast. The new Superbook series will feature stories that convey biblical truths to a tech-savvy generation.

Gordon Robertson said, "The original series has had a tremendous global impact over the last 28 years, but technology has made huge strides since those programs were first produced. Animation is extremely popular around the world with not only children but also adults, so CBN has re-imagined a new version of Superbook with state of the art 3-D animation, which will enable us to reach a new generation of viewers."

The newly completed pilot episode features the story of David and Goliath, relived through the time-travel adventures of the three main characters. CBN is looking to produce 12 additional episodes, with stories covering creation, Abraham and Isaac, Jacob and Esau, Moses and the exodus, the ten commandments, Daniel and the lion’s den, the birth of Jesus, Jesus coming into his ministry, the last supper, Easter, Saul of Tarsus and Revelations.

As part of the launch, CBN has also created Superbookkids.com, a supporting web site where parents and their children can play interactive games and participate in learning activities online.
