Elevated Ventures Inc, a web incubator from Victoria Canada, has launched in beta a new tool for online marketers that promises to save them time and headaches when promoting their links online. The product is called LinkShiftr (http://linkshiftr.com) and it’s a URL redirection service that allows the link promoter to retain control over the links they promote. It has many of the same features of a URL shortening service like bit.ly such as shortening/masking links and stats collection except with the added benefits of allowing users to redirect their links to different destinations whenever they would like and allowing users to rotate through many different destination URLs for landing page optimization.

The basic problem that LinkShiftr tries so solve is that once a marketer posts a link online they really have no control over which page those links direct to in the future. Let’s say a marketer posts a link directing to their site's homepage today and then tomorrow they would like to direct that traffic to a sign-up page on their site to see if that lands them more customers. Unless they're using an expensive and user unfriendly marketing platform there's really no way to switch where the traffic is going without changing it on the site where it was originally posted. Changing a link once it’s been posted can be a real pain for many reasons such as a new link approval processes, waiting for a member of a tech team to get to doing it, or it may not even be possible to change it if it’s been sent out in a newsletter or RSS feed. LinkShiftr gives marketers immediate control over the destinations of their links.

The goal of Linkshiftr is to make setting up links very quick so that posters don't find it a hassle to use but also provide stats, URL rotation, and link redirection to make it useful to them as a marketer’s tool. The LinkShiftr.com system is free to use for basic accounts and a paid pro account will get you access to conversion tracking and more pro features scheduled to arrive soon.
