Bookmark sync leader unveils new service to increase click-thru rates on search ads by 15%; displays ratings and reviews crowd-sourced from millions of users and over one billion bookmarks

Xmarks, the leader in bookmark sync across browsers and devices managing over one billion bookmarks, today launched SearchBoost, a new service designed to help search marketers significantly increase the performance of their paid search ads.

SearchBoost works by displaying crowd-sourced ratings and reviews as an overlay to paid search ads on Google and Bing search pages. This SearchBoost overlay is visible across the half a billion searches performed each month by the 4.5MM active Xmarks add-ons.

In an extensive test across 200,000 users prior to launch, Xmarks found that on average SearchBoost increases pay-per-click advertising click-thru rates by 15%, helping site owners get more clicks from their most efficient marketing channel.

SearchBoost also provides unique search analytics reports designed to provide search marketers competitive insight into which search terms are delivering the most clicks across both paid and organic search results. This click-share data allows marketers to understand and optimize their paid and organic search performance.

How SearchBoost Works:
Xmarks aggregates and analyzes over a billion bookmarks to create web site ratings and reviews. SearchBoost automatically enhances an advertiser’s PPC ad by overlaying their Xmarks rating onto the search results page.

The SearchBoost overlay is visible when the Xmarks add-on is installed in the browser. This feature is live today in Xmarks for Firefox, and is coming soon to Xmarks for IE and Xmarks for Chrome. The active Xmarks user base performs over 450 million web searches each month.

In an extensive test of 200,000 users, Xmarks found that SearchBoost increased pay-per-click performance by 15%.

How SearchBoost Analytics Work:
SearchBoost analytics displays actual click-rate data aggregated from actual usage of 4MM active add-ons performing over 15MM daily searches (450MM monthly) to help search marketers truly understand and optimize their paid and organic search performance.

With SearchBoost analytics, marketers are able to access a wealth of competitive data on click-share for both paid and organic search; that was previously on available at enterprise price points.

Xmarks Details:
Xmarks is the top bookmark sync product across all browsers and devices with a base of 4MM active browser add-ons. Currently the Xmarks web service manages over one billion bookmarks. That includes 350MM unique URLs. Sites are implicitly ranked across 250K unique topics and Xmarks users can easily create site reviews from within the Firefox browser.

The Xmarks knowledge base is growing quickly. Xmarks is currently adding 40MM bookmarks and 200,000 web site reviews per month. Xmarks is available for Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari and Chrome.

Commentary:
“For over a year we’ve been providing Xmarks users with ‘Smarter Search’: crowd-sourced ratings and reviews delivered directly onto the search results page,” said James Joaquin, chief executive officer of Xmarks. “With the launch of SearchBoost, we’re extending that capability to paid search listings, giving the consumer more transparency and giving the advertiser better performance for their search dollar.”

“SearchBoost is the realization of our original vision for Xmarks: by crowd-sourcing a billion bookmarks we have created a very unique and very high quality signal to improve consumer web search,” said Mitch Kapor, chairman and co-founder of Xmarks.
