China’s President Hu Jintao and China’s first Black POP Idol and unofficial diplomat, 20 year old Lou Jing are finally coming to America. Both will arrive on Monday April 12, 2010. President Hu Jintao will be arriving in Washington and Lou Jing will arrive in Los Angeles. Even though the Chinese President will be arriving in Washington to meet with the first African American President at the Nuclear Security Summit, mainstream America might be more excited about China’s international public figure Lou Jing arriving in Hollywood? To prove this point, hundreds of supporters will be at Los Angeles International Airport on Monday at 10 AM to welcome her with hugs. Why is Lou Jing such a phenomenon and is she more popular than China’s President?
In October 09, Lou Jing was the subject of mass racial abuse and cyber bullying in China. The world was shocked, angered and disappointed by a news story that aired on CNN International from Shanghai China. In short: Lou Jing, a 20-year-old woman from Shanghai and the daughter of a Chinese mother and African American father was a contestant on an American Idol-type show in China. The show is titled “(Go! Oriental Angel).” Lou was met with racial abuse and ugly reactions from young Chinese viewers commenting on websites dedicated to the show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QUG6KSy9rPI
After watching the CNN story, American born Mikal Kamil, an entertainment activist, strategic consultant, producer and CEO of 3Kingdoms Entertainment decided that enough was enough! From that moment Kamil’s mission was to use his resources to help Lou Jing and her mother come to the United States. Kamil, being a student of China knew it would not be easy to get through China’s “great firewall” of ideological, cultural and political landmines to support Lou Jing. Fortunately, Kamil was placed in touched with Lou Jing by a very supportive Chinese Consulate and CNN. “When I first spoke with Lou Jing, I promised her that I would not disappoint her and thanks to the United States Embassy in Shanghai and our friends in China she is coming to America. Lou Jing is now my adopted little sister and she tells me that I am her trusted big brother.” says Kamil.
Within six months of the racial assault Lou Jing has become an international media darling and a symbol of courage, hope and change for young America and young China. Lou Jing believes that Hu Jintao and Barack Obama are great leaders and hopes that they will one day become great friends. She feels like the luckiest girl in the world to be welcomed by America with open and loving arms. So America, say hello to Lou Jing!
