As the plane descends on the outskirts of Istanbul, Turkey, Elaine sees below a metropolis spread across two continents—a city filled with history, pride, and a cultural diversity like none she has ever known. This, she is certain, will be the new beginning she needs. What, after all, can possibly go wrong? Author R. Drew Springfield takes readers on an unforgettable journey of love and self-discovery wrapped in a cloak of mayhem and mystery with the release of his novel E ? Troubled Destiny.
Having just turned thirty-eight, Elaine, in the midst of a period of upheaval and change in her life, embarks on a two-year assignment as an adviser to the Turkish Naval Academy. She is intent on securing her career and laying the foundation of renewal. E ? Troubled Destiny begins just three months into her tour, and stresses soon explode when an American is murdered, leaving her with a sense of danger, no clue as to why, and an investigation she has little faith in. Coping is a task, but Ryan, a young airman stationed in Istanbul, seems to be the sounding board she needs—and safe. When he unveils his love for her, however, she finds her life thrown into turmoil, desire, and doubt. This becomes untenable when Paddy, a man she knew briefly before leaving for Turkey, arrives on the coast of the Black Sea. At wits end, and with events swirling around her, Elaine enters a tortuous period where she must decide who, if anyone, should share the love she holds.
A remarkable novel great for reviews, E ? Troubled Destiny delves into the feelings and emotions of Elaine and Ryan in an intimate and realistic way. In the end, you will know their strengths and weaknesses, fears and hopes, and will witness the struggle of a woman to once again lay her heart open and risk all for love. About the Author
R. Drew Springfield spent his formative years overseas from 1955 through 1962, particularly in Asuncion, Paraguay; Lahore, West Pakistan; and Dacca, East Pakistan, now Dhaka, Bangladesh. As an adult, he lived in Istanbul, Turkey (1970 – 1971) and later traveled to Cairo, Egypt (1981) and Tegucigalpa, Honduras (1985) to visit his wife during her assignments there. A long time resident of San Antonio, Texas, this is the author’s first novel. Beyond life itself, he owes his parents for the experience of world travel in a unique era, the patience to allow a boy’s imagination to roam, and the loving discipline to hold that imagination in check. All these factors played an integral part in the creation of this novel.
