Wine and spirits brands invited to participate in major international competition. Judges culled from the on and off premise trade make this competition unique.

Dori Bryant and Adam Levy, founders of the New York International Wine & Spirits Awards, announced today that this trade-only competition will take place the week of June 13, 2010.

The NYIW&SA are the only competitions whose judges consist solely of people who are buyers from top retail stores, sommeliers, restaurant owners, distributors and importers of wine and spirits from around the world. Unlike other competitions, these judges have purchasing power and have the ability to make a direct impact on brand sales.

Jack Robertiello of Drinks Ink will serve as host to both the wine and spirits competitions. Mr. Robertiello is a writer and an industry veteran who has served as a judge in numerous competitions. At the start of each segment of the judging program, Mr. Robertiello will present an overview of the category and will offer nuances particular to each subset.

Judging is performed by panels of industry influencers. Brands will be rated on a set of criteria including appearance, aroma, taste, mouthfeel and finish. Upon completion of the tastings, panelists will confer and decide which samples are award worthy.

Award levels are Double Gold, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Double Gold award winners will be re-tasted by all panelists to establish which brands may be eligible to receive a 'Best of Category' endorsement as well as which might be eligible to receive the competition's highest honor, the FDR/Best of Show Award. The FDR award honors one of our greatest presidents, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who actively supported and endorsed the repeal of Prohibition.

The inaugural New York International Spirits Awards was held in June 2009. The overwhelming response led to the creation of the New York International Wine Awards which will be held for the first time this year.
