CarbonCast Insulated Architectural Cladding from AltusGroup precasters ( http://www.altusprecast.com ) offers weight reductions of about 40% compared to solid, 6" thick precast concrete wall panels and is engineered to deliver insulation values of R-8 or more.

CarbonCast Insulated Architectural Cladding is an insulated sandwich-type wall panel with inner and outer concrete wythes of 1.75" or more in thickness. The wythes sandwich a layer of continuous insulation (ci) of 2" or more (usually up to 4") to meet ASHRAE 90.1 2007 requirements. CarbonCast Insulated Architectural Cladding uses C-GRID® carbon fiber grid shear trusses to connect the inner and outer wythes of concrete, creating a strong connection with negligible thermal transfer.

Reducing the amount of concrete lowers the panel weight. Inner and outer wythes of 1.75" result in total concrete thickness of 3.5". That’s 40 percent less concrete than a conventional 6"-thick precast panel, which decreases embodied energy. CarbonCast Insulated Architectural Cladding can also use C-GRID for reinforcement in the panel’s face when concrete cover requirements—for example, deep reveals—limit the use of welded wire mesh.

CarbonCast Insulated Architectural Cladding features edge-to-edge continuous insulation that delivers 100 percent of its rated R-value without thermal bridges or solid zones. The resulting thermally efficient panel provides steady-state R-values of R-8 or more depending on how much insulation is incorporated between the panel’s inner and outer wythes. AltusGroup precasters can use either EPS or XPS insulation depending on design requirements.

Additionally, the physical properties of precast concrete provide a beneficial thermal lag effect that can further reduce HVAC demands.

CarbonCast Insulated Architectural Cladding uses C-GRID® shear trusses to connect the inner and outer wythes of concrete. CarbonCast Insulated Architectural Cladding can also incorporate C-GRID into the exterior face when concrete cover requirements—for example, deep reveals limit the use of welded wire mesh. Reducing the amount of concrete lowers the panel weight. Inner and outer wythes of 1.75" result in total concrete thickness of 3.5".

The design of this CarbonCast system is based on the extensively tested CarbonCast High Performance Insulated Wall Panel. CarbonCast Insulated Architectural Cladding is intended for horizontal or vertical placement as a non-load-bearing spandrel or column cover. The similarity in sandwich design means the CarbonCast Insulated Architectural Cladding is engineered to exhibit the exceptional strength and durability benefits of its load-bearing predecessor.
