Newton, MA (PRWEB) April 14, 2010
Lyra Research, the digital imaging authority (http://www.lyra.com), has issued a market perspective, Ipex 2010 Preview: Setting the Commercial Ink Jet Table, that discusses what vendors such as Agfa, Fujifilm, HP, Impika, Kodak, Océ, Olympus, Riso, Screen, and Xerox will bring to the table at Ipex (see figure). Ipex is the quadrennial trade show for the high-end printing industry that is held two years apart from drupa. This year’s show will be held from May 18–25 at the NEC in Birmingham in the United Kingdom.
“While the 2008 drupa event was billed as ‘the ink jet drupa’ and was the show where ink jet emerged as a viable technology, this year’s Ipex will be the show where ink jet becomes a legitimate contender for more than just transaction applications,” said Peter Mayhew, director of Lyra Research Europe.
“Since the drupa show, Screen and InfoPrint have clearly hit their stride with their Epson-based Truepress and InfoPrint 5000 presses. There are reports that the two companies have now installed some 200 engines between them. HP’s T300 Inkjet Web Press is now ‘commercially available,’ and HP has several beta sites in operation. Kodak is not quite at that stage, but it currently does have several installations of its Prosper S10 imprinting system installed and will have a black-only Prosper 1000 press installed by the time IPEX is held,” Mayhew added.
