Akim Anastopoulo and Hollywood SC Studio’s film “Republic of Pete”, won the Audience’s Choice Award at the 2010 Charleston International Film Festival. “Republic of Pete” was one of 7 feature length films to be selected for this year’s Charleston International Film Festival with over 90 feature films being submitted.
“To be selected by the festival attendees for this award is a great honor,” says Executive Producer Akim Anastopoulo who plays “Extreme” Akim on the Nationally Syndicated daytime television show Eye for an Eye, he continued with, “It is a true testament of the talent of the cast and crew of the film, it is a great feeling to see their hard work rewarded by their peers and movie goers.” The film was directed by Jesse Berger and Produced by Matt Slechter and Nate Mallard. The Charleston International Film festival marked the World Premier of the “Republic of Pete” and the beginning of the Film’s festival circuit before Hollywood SC Studios starts to distribute the film to the domestic and international marketplace.
“Republic of Pete” is a buddy comedy that tells the story of loveable loser protagonist Pete and his friends. Pete's evil Grandpa gives him $80 million in an effort to avoid losing his fortune in a lawsuit. Newly rich Pete and his friends decide to live out their fantasy of a perfect vacation life by buying an island. But evil Grandpa has only one goal: to get his greedy hands back on his money.
“We are excited to host the World Premier of 'Republic of Pete,' it is a wonderful comedy film that embodies the independent film making spirit that we strive to showcase at our festival,” said Brian Peacher, Executive Director of the Charleston International Film Festival.
“Republic of Pete” stars, TV and Film veteran and Folly Beach resident Clarence Felder (The Last Boy Scout, Nightmare on Elm Street), Army Wives’ Richard Bryant as well as local actors Ben Zisk, Miles Pittman and Taylor Townes.
