Hiking is becoming an increasingly popular hobby for both young and old people across the UK

The trend to ‘staycations’ and increasing awareness of the health benefits of exercise led Macclesfield businessman Ian Brookes to launch outdoor clothing website, OutdoorLook.co.uk, he has revealed.

Having just celebrated a year in trading, Outdoor Look conducted research into the nation’s hiking habits, revealing the Lake District, the Scottish Highlands and the coast as the most popular spots for UK walkers. 35% of people surveyed were prepared to pay for their hikes to protect areas of natural beauty, but of this 35% over half would only be willing to pay up to £1 per walk. Off-road vehicles and motorbikes are the biggest sources of annoyance for UK hikers, whilst 31% of walkers finish a successful days’ hike by tucking into a home cooked meal. 29% celebrate the completion of a hike by heading to the pub!
