GUI Design Studio 4.0 brings new levels of realism to user interface prototype interactivity and new ways of sharing designs from individual components through to complete designs and templates.

Caretta Software announces the immediate availability of GUI Design Studio 4.0, the user interface design and prototyping tool for professional application and web designers around the world. No software knowledge or coding is required to use the tool.

GUI Design Studio 4.0 brings new levels of realism to user interface prototype interactivity and new ways of sharing designs from individual components through to complete designs and templates.

The release of version 4.0 also heralds the arrival of a new edition: GUI Design Studio Express. Available at just $129, GUI DS Express is ideal for smaller teams or projects, Express has all of the UI layout tools of the Professional edition. The Professional edition, which has a list price of $499, adds collaboration features such as templates, sub-versioning and documentation generation, and interaction features such as conditional elements, variables and expression evaluation.

The new interaction features make it possible to design a User Interface that mimics the behaviour of the final application far more closely than was previously possible. Whilst running the prototype the user can enter data and make decisions that affect what happens next, and the content of the UI, just like in the final application.

Along with GUI Design Studio v4.0 Caretta Software is also launching a new website, http://www.guidesignpatterns.com, which allows users to share UI designs, either libraries of components, templates, samples or patterns. These can be uploaded with a simple email or downloaded for immediate use in GUI Design Studio.

GUI Design Studio v4.0 offers a rapid return on investment by reducing design time and the time spent communicating the design. By making it possible to demonstrate the design accurately to the team and the client, it reduces errors in communication and therefore revision iterations. It also makes it possible to do more usability testing, earlier in the design process, and by providing a convincing UI prototype that can emulate the behaviour of the final application. All of this adds up to better user experiences, designed quicker.

“These new features really focus GUI Design Studio on the needs of professional user experience teams because they can now go from initial mock-up to fully featured prototype in a single tool” said Jonathan Attias, CEO of Caretta Software.

A free 30-day trial of GUI Design Studio 4.0 can be downloaded from http://www.carettasoftware.com. It requires a PC running Microsoft Windows Win7/Vista/XP/NT/2000. Discounts are available for volume licensing. Users of previous versions can upgrade at a discount.
