Another elite football showcase took place yesterday when Al Hilal hosted Al Sadd from Qatar during a competitive Match Day 5 of the AFC Champions League (ACL) at King Fahd International Stadium. Al Hilal held the visitors to a goalless draw, ensuring and retaining their position as leaders in Group D, as they moved on to the Group of 16 stage in the tournament.
For the Al Hilal fans, there was another reason to celebrate. In an earlier game in Match Day 1, on 24 February 2010, Al Hilal’s dashing striker, Yasser Al Qahtani had enthralled more than 11,100 spectators with a spectacular goal in their convincing 3-0 win over the same opponents. Participants vote for what they believe is the best goal, out of a selection of five goals scored in the tournament in that month, and stand to win fantastic prizes. The ‘Goal of the Month’ contest (seven in all, from March to November 2010, ACL summer break apart) culminates in a grand finale, the ‘Goal of the Season’ at the ACL Finals in November. The lucky winner of the ‘Goal of the Season’ contest will win a 5-day, 4-night stay at the Prana Resorts & Spa in Koh Samui, Thailand.
