Automatic network topology discovery and distributed application diagramming will eliminate the hundreds of hours our customers previously spent documenting their network.

Savision B.V., the leader in Microsoft® System Center visualization, today announced the general availability of Live Maps for System Center v5. Live Maps extends Microsoft’s System Center allowing for networks, systems, services and business processes to be dynamically visualized onto easy-to-understand displays. System Center data is displayed perfectly based on business and user context ensuring that service-levels are improved and IT support costs are reduced. This latest release greatly enhances IT departments’ ability to automatically construct and update large-scale monitoring maps.
New features allow IT departments with dynamic and ever-changing networks to always have an up-to-date view of its network topology and overall health. Live Maps v5 improved web-based console ensures that employees at all levels, from the IT operator to the business executive, have access to the maps needed to proactively manage IT problems that affect business operations. Savision has partnered with Jalasoft for network discovery to automatically populate Live Map’s topology builder.
"Coupling Live Maps automatic topology mapping technology with Jalasoft’s Xian Network Manager network discovery technology allows IT departments to instantly discover and visualize its exact network configuration as it changes," said Arnold Hagens, Product Marketing Manager at Jalasoft. "Our mutual customers are now able to manage and visualize network topologies like never before directly from Microsoft System Center Operations Manager."
Version 5 gives IT departments running Microsoft Operations Manager 2007 R2 a powerful step-by-step wizard to easily import distributed applications based on standard-issue or custom-built management packs. As new servers, applications or network devices enter the IT environment, Live Maps v5 elegantly adds them to the map and automatically creates state-aware connections down to the interface level. These enhancements coupled with existing wizards, mapping templates, and network link-awareness provides unparalleled visualization options for IT departments using System Center.
"Live Maps v5 promises to make mapping our client's large, complex, and ever-changing distributed IT environment even easier," said Cameron Fuller, System Center Consultant and Operations Manager MVP. "The ability to use Live Maps in concert with network discovery should ensure that our clients' operations team always have a picture of the true state of the environment. The new version of Live Maps will help improve their service levels eliminates ambiguity and hand-offs as everyone is always on the same page. We continue to see Savision’s Live Maps as a significant value-add for any IT department."
Only Live Maps dynamically updates all map types based on simple rules. IT Pros can map and roll-up any IT object into dashboards, business processes, network and service topologies. Live Maps automates critical IT operations documentation. As a change management process ushers in new IT objects, Live Maps automatically identifies these objects and notifies the administrator of new map placements. Gone are the days of mission-critical IT documentation being out of date.
"Many of our customers have deployed Live Maps across hundreds of sites managing thousands of IT objects," said Dennis Rietvink, Founder, Savision. "Automatic network topology discovery and distributed application diagramming will eliminate the hundreds of hours our customers previously spent documenting their network. This new functionality ensures that the roll-up dashboards and business-line health views are always up-to-date, which will help shorten our customers’ change management windows and improve incident resolution times."
Live Maps v5 builds on its previously successful features that have allowed hundreds of IT organizations to add the right business context to their IT environment. For a complete list of Live Maps v5 features visit: http://www.savision.com
Automatically Diagram Network Topologies
Networks are always evolving. Determining what is connected to what is time consuming; not to mention, the headaches of maintaining physical network diagrams. Live Maps dynamically connects lines between connected objects, including network hardware, systems and appliances on maps. Coupling Live Maps with a network discovery, such as Jalasoft’s Xian Network Manager, services makes network management automatic.
Live Maps dynamically updates based on IT infrastructure changes. All underlying IT infrastructure changes are dynamically mapped based on rules. Gone are the days of re-mapping, re-building or forgetting about environment changes. This guarantees that process, system, network, geographic and dashboard infrastructure dependencies are updated dynamically, eliminating hours from building and maintaining monitoring maps. New IT objects are automatically shown on the proper map without searching.
Live Maps provides a dynamic, end-to-end view of any IT environment. Views that encapsulate the end-user’s perspective can be combined with geographic maps, business processes, and network and application topologies. Live Map’s holistic, context-aware approach reduces support calls, troubleshooting time, and unnecessary problem hand-offs.
Live Maps provides role-based access to authorized users through a fully functional web-based interface. Distributed IT Pros can gain access instantly without installing a native client. Service Level and Executive Dashboards can be embedded on an intranet, such as SharePoint, or self-service IT portals. This ensures that the right level of visibility is provided in real-time to all concerned parties.
