“With a flood of U.S. jobs disappearing overseas, we have committed our company to shift our manufacturing back to the USA to help stem the tide. This is good for our country and smart business,” said Elements Naturals Co-Founder and CEO, Linda Naerheim.

Today, with President Obama and lawmakers working to create more ‘green’ manufacturing jobs in the USA, Elements Naturals announces its plan to take part. The company that was the first-to-market with a 100% natural and compostable baby wipe made from plants, will now manufacture its earth-friendly wipe entirely in the USA.

“With a flood of U.S. jobs disappearing overseas, we have committed our company to shift our manufacturing back to the USA to help stem the tide. This is good for our country and smart business,” said Elements Naturals Co-Founder and CEO, Linda Naerheim.

Elements Naturals sold out of its first production run of wipes within six months of being introduced to consumers last year. Although these wipes contained US made materials, the final product was completed overseas.

To make the switch, Naerheim has partnered with a manufacturer with the capacity to meet the booming demand and offer affordable pricing for the sustainable baby wipes. Keeping the products affordable for American families while meeting sustainability standards was key to her decision to bring the manufacturing here.

Bringing production to the U.S. has also allowed Naerheim to develop a new and improved product. The packaging now has a bigger opening that allows parents easier dispensing and using 90% less plastic than a traditional wipe ‘tub.’ Another improved eco-benefit of the product is its ingredients, which are certified by EcoCert and the Natural Products Association. The wipes are also larger and thicker than before so fewer wipes are needed to do the job.

“We have become a nation of disposable wipe users from cleaning countertops and floors to sanitizing hands and cleaning baby bottoms. One of the fastest growing disposable products on the market today, 39-billion individual baby wipes were tossed into our landfills and sewage systems in 2008, critically challenging them. Parents are becoming more aware of the small changes they can make to have a big impact on the environment, and this has been the driving force of the huge demand for our compostable wipes,” said Naerheim.

Naerheim added that the idea goes much further than providing her loyal customers with a quality product.

“As a parent and a small business owner I have a responsibility to grow this company here, in America. We want parents to have an eco-friendly product now and for their children to have eco-friendly jobs when they grow up.”

Naerheim, a mother of two, launched Elements Naturals after learning she was wiping her first baby with a product consisting of petroleum by-products and harsh chemicals. While there are other wipes on the baby market that are biodegradable and don’t contain ingredients that can irritate a baby's skin, Elements Naturals® baby wipes are the only ones on the market today made from 100% nature-based Ingeo™ fibers, which uses no chemical additives or surface treatments and is both recyclable and compostable.

The 100% compostable wipes meet ASTM, ISO and EN regulations and will fully degrade in industrial compost systems, where they are available. If not composted, the Elements Naturals wipes are compatible with standard waste disposal systems, including landfill and incineration.

Elements Naturals wipes are available at retailers across the country. Retailer locations can be found on the company website. The wipes retail for $5.95 for 80 wipes.

An ethical and socially responsible company, Elements Naturals products are never tested on animals and a portion of their proceeds goes to 1 % FOR THE PLANET, an organization that encourages businesses to contribute 1% of sales to environmental groups to drive positive environmental change around the world. The company is also a proud signer of The Compact for Safe Cosmetics.
