The initiative is the largest corporate citizenship in the world.

“As we reflect on the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day, we all realize to be ECO; we all must live ECO every day. We are honored to be selected to stand with Cintas and the UN to preserve our environment” said Tim Danser, VP of Bagir International.

Bagir Ltd., the Israel-based tailored apparel manufacturer, renowned for high-tech garments, eco-innovations, and manufacturer of the first recycled men's suit made from post-consumer waste plastic bottles, is proud to announce its participation in the United Nations Global Compact. The Global Compact is the most comprehensive framework worldwide to progress ethical principles in business with corporate social and environmental responsibility as the key foundation. The initiative is the largest corporate citizenship in the world.

Bagir Group was accepted as a member of the Global Compact in March 2010, and has published its first Communication on Progress. The publication is a summary of the ways in which Bagir Group operates in support of the Global Compact principles in all aspects of its global business. The Communication is available on the Global Compact website:

Highlights include:

  • A commitment by CEO, Ofer Gilboa, to strengthening Bagir Group's Sustainability Program and report publicly on progress on an annual basis.
  • The development of reduced carbon footprint EcoGir® tailored suit technology, which helps protect the environment by recycling, conserving energy and eliminating waste through use of post-consumer recycled plastics.
  • Manufacturing in all locations in line with the Ethical Trading Initiative Base Code.
  • Conversion of the Company's vehicle fleet in Israel to hybrid vehicles, saving 45% of fuel consumption per year.
  • Clear commitment to Human Rights, Employee Development, and Community Empowerment.

Moshe Gadot, Bagir Group's VP for Global Marketing, said, "The Global Compact represents the Gold Standard for businesses who wish to succeed whilst acting responsibly towards society and the environment. This has been Bagir's way for many years. Joining the Global Compact strengthens our public commitment to respect and promote the core principles of responsible business alongside leading similar-minded Companies around the globe. "

The Global Compact is an international network of companies, UN agencies, trade unions and non-governmental organizations supporting a shared set of 10 principles on the environment, labor and human rights. For more information, see http://www.unglobalcompact.org . Bagir Group is one of the few Israeli based Companies to join this important initiative, and in doing so, hopes to spread awareness, particularly in the fashion and apparel sector, in the hope that other Israeli Companies will follow.

Never before have the objectives of the international community and the business world been so aligned. Common goals, such as building markets, combating corruption, safeguarding the environment and ensuring social inclusion, have resulted in unprecedented partnerships and openness among business, government, civil society, labor and the United Nations. Many businesses recognize the need to collaborate with international actors in the current global context where social, political and economic challenges (and opportunities) — whether occurring at home or in other regions — affect companies as never before. As a global manufacturer, Bagir raises the bar on standards for the market place.

Bagir is a key strategic partner with Cintas on bringing ECO-Fabulous living to the market place. Cintas, recently ranked in the Top 500 Companies for Green Living, partnered with Bagir to bring the first ECO suits to Americas best companies. “As we reflect on the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day, we all realize to be ECO, we all must live ECO every day. We are honored to be selected to stand with Cintas and the UN to preserve our environment” said Tim Danser, VP of Bagir International.
