Viewbug.com, a rapidly growing photo-sharing online community, holds numerous photo contests where members can submit their photographs for a chance to win cash, cameras, accessories, and exposure of their work. Currently, the two most popular contests are My Best Photo Contest and Panorama Photo Contest.
My Best Photo contest was first launched February 9, 2010 and it encourages people to submit their favorite, most polished photographic piece. Submissions are accepted until May 4, 2010 and the winner is chosen by the members of the ViewBug community through a short voting period starting May 5 to May 13, 2010. This contest offers one of the best prizes any photo contest has to offer – the opportunity to have your photo in American Photo Magazine. On top of that, the winner also receives a $100 cash prize. Over 900 entries have been submitted and all level photographers are able to participate.
The Panorama Photo Contest was first launched on March 23, 2010, and the goal is to show a photograph of the world around us. Submissions are accepted until July 11, 2010. Unlike My Best Photo Contest, this contest has 3 winners – 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and the winners are chosen by ViewBug’s judging panel. However, the prizes are just as great. The grand prize is $500 cash, a Joby Gorilla Tripod, a large format print of their photograph, and exposure via being featured on ViewBug’s homepage, blog, and newsletter. The second place winner will receive a Joby Gorilla Tripod and exposure via the ViewBug website and the third place winner will also receive exposure.
Since ViewBug’s launch two years ago in 2008, they have already held 80 contests and over 3,000 people have won cash prizes. ViewBug announces a new contest every week, all offering various prizes. ViewBug motivates all photography enthusiasts out there by hosting these contests because not only does the winner receive a prize, but it also boosts their self confidence, regardless of whether they are an amateur or a professional. So far, ViewBug has given away more than $40,000 in prizes and has published the work of 6 distinguished photographers. There is always a contest going on at ViewBug.com. Any photograph uploaded is eligible for the contests, as long as it is the artist’s original work. All one needs to do is become a member and they will have the chance to join in on any competition.
