Using Free Game Of The Day puts a game in front of 17 million connected players

As a myriad of new iPhone games continue to flood the App Store, it's easy for even high quality games to get lost in the shuffle. When competing with 120,000 apps for the precious attention of iPhone gamers, app developers don’t have too many avenues to assure their game gets noticed.
This was the case with the Secret Exit's quirky stairflight simulator game, Stair Dismount, which, despite proving itself by winning the Technical Achievement category in the Independent Games Festival Mobile 2010, saw limited success since its release on November 24th 2009, trailing to a plateau of about 50 daily downloads. Their solution: release a free Lite version and feature it on Aurora Feint’s FreeGameOfTheDay.com.
On March 4th, when Stair Dismount Lite was featured on FreeGameOfTheDay.com, and Secret Exit saw the Lite version jump from 5,000 to over 32,000 daily downloads.
FreeGameOfTheDay.com was launched by Aurora Feint earlier last month with the intention of driving discovery and awareness within the iTunes App Store.
“The rush of downloads we received from being featured on the site was incredible,” said Jani Kahrama, Head of Studio at Secret Exit. “The visibility boost pushed Stair Dismount Lite up the Free App charts, helping it reach a critical mass of users for a viral factor to emerge to enable further promotion by word of mouth.”
SD Lite averaged 40,000 downloads per day on the week following its spotlight on FreeGameoftheDay.com. From March 4th to 19th, it was downloaded over 450,000 times. An average of 15 percent of those users have purchased the paid version of the game.
The full version benefited greatly from the Free Game Of The Day promotion and climbed to the #3 Top Paid Game in Canada, the #11 Top Paid Game in the US and the #10 Top Paid Game in the United Kingdom.
