IT leaders representing hospitals, physician practices, health plans, IT managed service providers, and the education community will assess the state of the industry at this meeting.

The Long Island Chapter of the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) today announced the speakers for its meeting titled “A Prescription for Change: The Present and Future of Healthcare Information Technology,” to be held on Tuesday, April 27, from 11 am to 2 pm, at Hofstra University, in Hempstead, NY.

The luncheon panel runs from noon until 2 pm, and includes these speakers:

  • John Bosco - Chief Information Officer, North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System
  • Lynette Byrnes – President, NY MGMA (Medical Group Management Association), Long Island Chapter
  • Dr. Michael Oppenheim - Chief Medical Information Officer, Hofstra/North Shore Long Island Jewish Healthcare System
  • Steven Sakovits - Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer, HealthFirst

The meeting will also feature a pre-luncheon workshop at 11:00 AM titled "Best Practices for Managed IT in Healthcare," led by Viyas Sundaram, General Manager, Mid-Atlantic Region, mindSHIFT Technologies.

“There is no hotter topic in the information technology industry today than healthcare,” said Blaine Atkins, AITP Healthcare IT SIG chairman. “Massive change is on the horizon, and it’s being driven by the healthcare legislation recently signed into law by the President, combined with last year’s federal stimulus funding (ARRA, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009) that targets billions of dollars for the wide use of electronic health records (EHR), among other IT initiatives. We look forward to learning about the current and future challenges faced by the healthcare IT leaders who are presenting at this event.”

“This meeting is another in AITP’s ongoing effort to meet the needs of our members,” said Barbara Viola, president, AITP Long Island Chapter, and Eastern District Director of the national AITP organization. “Earlier this year, we established a Special Interest Group for Healthcare IT, and the SIG has become the springboard for a series of educational meetings that are of great benefit to the whole IT community.”

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, from 11 AM to 2 PM, at the Hofstra University Club, on the campus of Hofstra University, in Hempstead, NY. For online pre-registration, visit:
