New white paper highlights the reach and risks of social networking and offers practical guidance for local businesses.

Although social networking appears overwhelmingly to be a good thing, it’s important to understand both the benefits and the innate risks.

ALTRES today released a new white paper entitled, “Social Media and the Workplace: A Guide for Hawaii Employers,” which outlines the impact of social networking on business and the risks that exist along with the potential rewards.

Amidst the ever-increasing hype surrounding the use of social media in business, very few resources address the liabilities involved. ALTRES published the “Social Media and the Workplace” guide primarily for the benefit of its hundreds of clients statewide but is making the white paper available to all Hawaii businesses at no cost.

“Social media is accelerating faster than anyone anticipated,” said ALTRES president and CEO, Barron Guss. “We have a responsibility to evaluate the risks on behalf of our clients. Although social networking appears overwhelmingly to be a good thing, it’s important to understand both the benefits and the innate risks. At ALTRES, we wanted to evaluate where this train is going before we all end up at a destination we’re not happy with.”
